Renaissance Red :: Bronzino

No one captured the rigid formality of court life in Florence
better than Agnolo Bronzino ( 1503-1572).
These are three of my favorites. The sumptuous details in the jewels
and fabric leave me slightly swooning .. . . especially the rare softness
of the red in each of these paintings.
Since one of my personal challenges for 2010 is to "Expand my Vision" -
I loved playing with these classic images to give them a bit of a
Fractured Renaissance effect with the multiple polaroids a la Mr. Hockney.

I rather think this group might have welcomed a playful moment
away from all that court formality .

Here's hoping you'll be having more than a few playful moments
this weekend ... . .

very very cool concept

did you actually take all those polaroids, or is it all digitally produced?

I have to say, I'm enjoying your new obsession with all things red!

I shall not deceive .. . .
and claim those to be real polaroids.
They were done with a nifty little online toy at Big Huge Labs, which lets you plug in any photo and get
random polaroid mixes. Part of the fun is to keep shuffling until you get one you like!

Here's the link, if you'd like to
give it a try:

I'll often used these Fractured images as the base for my hand done, stitched & painted mixed media.

Enjoy!

I like the fractured polaroids. I think it would be fun to do with pictures of buildings too. There's another tool like that where you can turn things into puzzles. How's a person supposed to get any work done with all these gadgets and fun things!

Interesting site. The images of red and the elaborate clothing are quite enough for me- but fragmenting them adds a very modern twist. I have a great Bronzino book I will now have to dig up and out to drink up.
