Treasures from Trash

I'm thinking - beach ... . ocean .. . . coral . . . shells.
Not such unusual thoughts to wander through ones' mind
at the beginning of summer.

But, these beachy shells & coral & creatures are just about
as unusual as you will ever see.
It must take a V E R Y talented and creative mind to sit down
and knit & crochet intricate coral formations and shells.
Not your usual grandmothers afghan .. . .

The brilliant talent behind these beauties is Helle Jorgenson of Sydney, Australia.
Really, REALLY, love her work.

Oh -- - that part about making Treasures from "Trash" .... .

Anyone with a creative streak as deep as Helle isn't going to just
run to her local yarn store and pick up a skein of wool:
she often makes her own "yarn " from paper and plastic bags!

Inclined to give it a try? Just go here and she'll teach you how.

Yes they're wonderful...such diversity...and the colors are yummy...I did a coral piece a while ago mostly with one of those little french knitting dollies..http://www.flickr.com/photos/blissbomb/3069821911/in/set-72157601073091352/

What wonderful sculpture. She is so clever. It is extraordinary what creative people can do when they have time to think. Brava Judith. Thanks Carla x

I am a big fan too! I adore these pieces. Would love to see a whole 'ocean floor' covered with them. When I look at them I find myself thinking of Helle and of the moment when she sits back and looks at a finished piece of the beautiful world she has created. Thrilling! Thanks J.

what i find so interesting is that you can only do these with crochet, not knitting! they're just incredible.

I'm not sure this comment is thoughtful but these sculptures are oh so cool! It is utter genius when artists use unexpected materials in their work.

These are beautiful! What lovely little artworks! I seriously want some - would be fun to intersperse with real coral in a display.
