Stitchin' Stuff

Coming home is good.
Coming home to a lovely surprise is great!

Since I just love sitting down with my sewing machine and
a few scraps of fabric and odd vintage books pages - it's
just always a giggle when I find that some of those little
concoctions end up on the pages of one of the Somerset
publications. Amanda Nolen, the editor at Sew Somerset,
sent me the preview of this little group of pieces which will
be featured in the upcoming Summer 2009 issue.

The article, "Scraps of a Lost Language," was also written by moi.
I always find that part to be a bit challenging. They want something
which speaks of my inspiration and detailed instructions.

All I really need to say is :

1. Sit down with a bunch of junk.
2. Stitch it together.

I completely agree - the artist's statement is always more difficult than the creation of the art!

Your little series is delightful - I love that pop of red...really makes them sing!

Now that's some great stitched junk! Love the vintage shorthand ephemera.

Those vintage pages look like absolute treasures! I love the script handwriting(? or so it looks) How wonderful to be able to incorporate the pages into your art. And congrats on being published again! xo

Congratulations on your article! I'm so glad you wrote it also - I'm a big fan of your way with words. Lovely work.

oooh how exciting...these three look lovely as a group...there may be vintage elements in them but they look so modern - the colors and the abstract shapes - and the old shorthand pages bring back some memories!

Stunning work.
You know, I've always wanted to try stitching on artwork but never have. Maybe it is time to take the plunge....
